MEET YOUR INSTRUCTORS

Hi, I’m regan shaver!

Famous for her extraordinary dad jokes, Regan’s journey with water began with learning how to swim at just 4 months old.

Growing up a true water baby, competing on swim team, and partaking in junior guards set her up for a very comfortable life in, on, around, and under water.

Called to spread the stoke, Regan has over a decade of coaching experience with surfing and swimming. Career highlights include teaching children with autism how to surf with Surfers Healing, and taking both the US Navy Blue Angels and US Air Force Thunderbird jet teams out surfing—twice!

Coming full circle, she now owns a career teaching newborn babies and people of all ages how to swim.

Hi, I’m hannah taylor!

I’ve been a lifeguard for 7 years and have done HB City Jr. Guards for 8 years.

I have been a jr guard instructor for 3 years for various age groups and enjoy working with kids to teach them ocean safety.

Combining my passion for the ocean and teaching is incredibly fulfilling, and I’m committed to ensuring a safe environment in order to enjoy it for a lifetime!

Hi, I’m Caden Martin!

I am a 23-year-old lifeguard employed by the City of Huntington Beach. This upcoming summer marks my eighth year as a lifeguard and my sixth season as a Junior Lifeguard Instructor.

I have experience instructing all age divisions and thoroughly enjoy working with each group. Additionally, I hold current certifications as an Emergency Medical Technician and as a certified SCUBA diver.

Beyond lifeguarding, I have played water polo competitively for Edison High School and Orange Coast College. I am currently in my final semester at California State University, Long Beach, pursuing a degree in Communications.

Hi, I’m Tara Ordoba!

I’ve been a lifeguard at Crystal for 4 years now and grew up in the Jr. Lifeguard program. It’s really the best program out there for kids at any age and teaches not just ocean safety but also life skills.

I grew up surfing in Newport and Huntington most of my life and coached at a surf camp until I was old enough to start lifeguarding. Now this will be my second year as a Jr Guard instructor and I can’t wait!

Hi, I’m Emma Willmer!

I am a fourth-year ocean lifeguard at HB City. I grew up in the water, swimming competitively year-round from the age of 10 till 20, spending hours in the ocean, and teaching kids how to swim for my mom’s swim lessons company.

I went on to compete at the national and collegiate Division 1 level, swimming for Irvine Novaquatics and then collegiately for San Diego State and Grand Canyon University. Once I discovered ocean lifeguarding, I never looked back, obtaining my EMT and promoting to Senior Ocean Lifeguard.

Working with kids is one of my great passions, as I am the oldest of five and currently student-teaching to be a history teacher. Junior guards combines these passions, which is why it has my heart! In my free time, I love to surf, swim, and get matcha lattes with friends.

Hi, I’m Rachel drapp!

I’ve been a Huntington Beach lifeguard for the last 6 years.

The last 5 years I’ve worked as a Junior Lifeguard Instructor mostly working with kids ages 9-11 who are newer to the program or less comfortable in the water.

It makes me so proud every year to help many kids in my group complete their first pier swim or catch their first wave on surf day! I am also a certified EMT and have helped form volunteer lifeguard programs in Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

Last year I lived on the Gold Coast of Australia where I worked a season as a paid lifeguard and obtained additional surf lifesaving certifications and training. When I’m not working or playing in the ocean I’m usually out and about on a new adventure like camping the Channel Islands, going to an art exhibit in LA, or cruising to Laguna on my moped.
