SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2022
LAGUNA BEACH, CA
WHAT TO EXPECT
Held in beautiful Laguna Beach, our ocean sessions will focus on building confidence and skills underwater in a less controlled environment.
The session will build upon the techniques learned in the main WATERGROMS workshop.
During the day, we will cover:
- Ocean Safety
- Beach Entry and Exit Through Surf
- Breathing Exercises
- Depth Practice (diving down comfortably in a wetsuit)
- Freediving/Snorkeling Skills
The day will start on the beach 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
From there, the conditions will determine the class. We will choose the skills and techniques that best suit the conditions on the day of the session. Laguna is the location that is most effected by swell and as a result is the least calm of all of the ocean locations. Participants will deal with potentially low visibility and shore break during this course.
Sessions may include both a “shallow station” where we work on drills similar to what we do in the pool, and a “deep station” where we will work on building new skills centered around depth.
The session will be monitored for safety by a boat at the “deep station.”
Open ocean sessions will be conducted only when conditions permit. Each session is limited to a 3:1 student to instructor ratio to ensure the safety of all those involved.
The safety of our participants as well as our instructors is our first priority; and because of the unpredictable nature of the ocean, we will run courses only on days where we are confident that it is safe for everyone involved.
Ocean sessions will begin in March 2022 and will continue through the fall. Due to the unpredictable nature of the ocean, the exact dates of each session are weather dependent.
We reserve the right to change course dates at any time if conditions do not permit.
If course dates must be changed due to weather or conditions, we will either issue a full refund, or reschedule your course date at no extra cost, whichever is your preference.
